The laughing gas is nitrous oxide. It is a gas with no smell or taste. When administered in various concentrations along with oxygen, it has a calming and analgesic effect. The gas mixture is administered through a mask worn over the nose. You will feel the laughing gas after a few minutes from the moment you start breathing the laughing gas. The state of relaxation and calm is maintained as long as the patient is breathing the gas. Its effect wears off when the doctor starts administering only oxygen or when the patient stops breathing through the nose on which the mask is worn. Thanks to the device we use, we can use different concentrations of laughing gas for oxygen, which is why we can regulate the patient's condition and the strength of the analgesic effect. Not everyone feels the effect of laughing gas in the same way. In children, laughing gas can often be used as a sufficient anesthetic for the treatment of deciduous teeth and simple extractions of deciduous teeth. In adults, it is perfect for performing hygienic procedures, which patients often find unpleasant.
General anesthesia
In our office, we perform procedures assisted by an anesthesiologist who, by administering the right drugs, keeps the patient in a state of minimal awareness while maintaining his own breathing. It is a safe solution for people who are very afraid of the dentist and cannot imagine their dental treatment being fully aware. The general anesthesia we perform is sedoanalgesia. Under such anesthesia, we can perform all types of dental procedures. For physiological and safety reasons, a maximum single visit should not be longer than 4-5 hours at a time. Before the procedure performed in sedoanalgesia, consultation is necessary to discuss the scope of the procedures, order the necessary blood tests before the procedure, determine the length of the planned procedure and complete the necessary health questionnaires. Before the procedure in sedoanalgesia, the patient must refrain from eating and drinking for at least 6 hours before the planned procedure. Breaking this prohibition may be life-threatening and in this case the treatment will have to be postponed to another date. After the treatment in sedoanalgesia, it is forbidden to drive motor vehicles and consume alcohol on the day of the procedure.
Treatments under general anesthesia are performed by all our doctors assisted by an anesthesiologist.
